The Loneliness

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

So what story we got today? I've just called my little boy today, asking about his plan to 'pulang kampung': pulang kampung means you return home, usually you return home to celebrate Ied - a day after the month of Ramadan.

Ade and his foster family will be going to Kebumen in Java. When he sent me text to inform about the plan, I was happy for him as at least he has 'good' people to celebrate Ied together. After short conversation to Mrs Azka, I sat on the coach in the living room, thinking how nice to be with family on Ied day.

When I find the quote above and read it repeatedly, I implement it to my own life, my imagination lead to a cat's life, wonder how anxious and lonely a cat's life is. Uhmm, I was thinking "I shouldn't be so upset about being lonely on Ied day as even cats grow lonely and anxious.

How often do you 'pulang kampung'?

If the distance between Ireland and Indonesia is just like Jakarta - Bandung I would 'pulang kampung' so often. However, I've been 'pulang kampung' three times in a year, so won't get another day off permission from my hubby until we're financially ready.

My last time to celebrate Ied in Indonesia with family was in 2008. It was my first Ied celebration in Indonesia after four years.

Since at age twenty fifth, I rarely celebrate Ied together with family - of course I miss a lot the event of being together on Ied day with my family, and 'sometimes' I'm a bit up set for not being able with them on Ied day.

It's just like a Christmas where mostly parents expecting their children to return home and celebrate the Christmas together.

"Even cats grow lonely and anxious" ~ Mason Cooley

When I find the quote above and read it repeatedly, I implement it to my own life, my imagination lead to a cat's life, wonder how anxious and lonely a cat's life is. Uhmm, I was thinking "I shouldn't be so upset about being lonely on Ied day as even cats grow lonely and anxious.

When thinking about loneliness it suddenly lead me to a friend's husband of mine who, I think, he doesn't really like to participate himself with the world outside. It's kind of my hubby like who prefer to be with certain people in certain occasions.

Maybe it because the westerns lifestyle looks like where people prefer to live individually.

However, I find it difficult at the first time arrives in Ireland, to adapt this individual life style, as you know Asian people is prefer to be with community or in a gathering instead of being alone; so it got me to frustration to be on my own world all the time.

After years living in Ireland, I get used to it. However I got scared sometimes to be alone on my pension period - just like those seniors I see in this country: will I survive to have such a life like that? Being alone till my death?

The Broken Printer

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

"Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed.  If I fail, no one will say, "She doesn't have what it takes."  They will say, "Women don't have what it takes."  ~Clare Boothe Luce"

The last time I used printer at home was about three months ago - since I was off from college: you know student has more tasks than any employee has; so it hasn't been used for quite ages. Since my hubby bought me the new notebook, I haven't used the older laptop for printing, so I keep stick with my new notebook until it's broken, or simply until I got bored with it.

However, today I got a problem with the printing, it didn't work as usual (I had no problem the last time I used the printer), so I sent a text to my hubby 'just' want to let him know that the printer wasn't working. My hubby then replied my text: "Ok, I'll look at  it when I get home".

Around 10 pm I remind him again to look at the printer, we both ran to the study room, he checked the printer the same as I did in the afternoon.

After less than 10 minutes checking, I got bored as he still didn't find the problem with the problem.

I:      I think I know the problem, the new updates have changed the setting for the printer. Maybe we need to remove the device from the notebook and reinstall it again?
He:   How do we reinstall it again?! (note: it's a note book so we don't have the disk place to place)

After few minutes ignoring my idea, he went to it and fixed the problem, at last.

I don't know what the moral message behind this story, perhaps there is no message at all in this story. But I just find that men sometimes uncomfortable with the women superiority. I'm not saying that I'm more superior of giving the right suggestion to fix the printer -- well, a little bit, but can't men say it: "You're right dear".

As like when I challenge my brother to play chess - he always refuse to play with me as according to him compete with a woman is awry thing for a man: it's natural if a man win the competition, and it would be embarrasing if lose from woman. Although I still don't get the point, but I accept his opinion as a man who too much speculation.

At least my hubby has been good enough to appreciate my effort: "Thats what a team for, honey" --- although the selfish still there.

How To Have Holiday Ireland With Deals Price

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

Ireland is one of most exciting places in the world to visit, it’s widely known with its beautiful places, cultures, and its story. Many tourists even visit Ireland as their better choice to practise English. Especially during summer, mostly tourists would come during this season. The view of Ireland is more attractive to see during summer than winter, but the cold weather doesn’t change the warmth welcome from what Ireland has offered for you.

It’s widely known before the crisis economic hit Ireland in 2008 that Ireland, or Dublin city, was the most expensive country or city to live with. Nevertheless, it’s still quite costly though for some people to come Ireland.

So how can you deal with its expenses?

Here are some suggestions that might help your plan holiday in Ireland.

Research information on the internet

Internet is the most helping tool that everyone can use. Much information you can get by surfing internet about Ireland tourisms. One of good sites that might help your plan holiday to Ireland is GrouponIreland. It offers useful tourism information about Ireland with its information prices as well.  Another thing from Groupon  is you might find good deals for your budget plan.

Book holiday early/in special season

The best thing to have holiday that you know it might be costly, you need to book everything early. For example if you want holiday in June or August, it would be much better if you book everything before these months, because June to August is high season and the price is normally more expensive than the normal season.

Many travel agents would offer discount during normal season - they usually offer in a package; a package holiday usually is cheaper than if you want a single booked: remember,  you want to get deals with its expenses, so it would be helping if you’re on limit budget, or if you want to save more money.

Where You Going

Different places would offer different price as well, so find where places you want to go is essential, such as Dublin is quite costly than other places in Ireland so ensure you have organised your plan.

Ireland has four beautiful provinces where can offer you spectacular view -- if you stay longer in Ireland driving would more adventure and cheaper than taking train. Bus is also cheaper and might be good if have a group trip.

Apart from Dublin, another big city in Ireland, such as Cork can be good place to visit. You can go to more attractive spots near Cork called Kerry. This place has stunning spot and very adventure, if you like water sport, Kerry is the right place for you!

Place to stay

Stay in a hotel can be very costly, particularly in Dublin area. But you can trick this by staying in B&B instead of hotel. There are many good B&BS offer in Ireland, and also with great attractive views!

Finally, you must remember to learn about its country before you go, know about its culture, the people, the story, or even just the food from its country – again, easy to find all of this information through the internet! Your learning can be very useful when you arrive in the country, at least you won’t get shock culture.

The Young Unemployed in 21st Century in Indonesia

Sunday, August 21, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

If you are lucky enough for not being unemployed in Indonesia then you are lucky enough. Perhaps for western people being unemployed in Indonesia means ‘no life’: we don’t have social welfare or jobs allowance that can keep us at least able to buy a bus ticket.

Young and unemployed is not the worst situation at all in life. But young, unemployed and with no opportunity is like a doom.

If you’re unemployed in Indonesia you have to know how to keep your life stay longer as there will be nothing you can get from government; you might be able to get some helps from your family or friends. The only common thing you can do is keep searching a job, until then you just keep waiting. I call this situation is an uninvited ‘pension’ – it’s the lack of unable going nowhere.

Some very encourage people from coach life events comment: “this is not the end of our world”.  I like it. It raise those young unemployed a hope. But as the hope raising the unemployed rank in Indonesia is also ascending.

I know it would be simply to answer why the young unemployed have no opportunity: because Indonesia isn’t a rich country. Well, Indonesia is actually rich enough to be called a rich country. The world know it how rich natural resources Indonesia is and how greatly in need its resources by many country over the world. This is the story what we got from media, anyway.

In the reality, young people desperate looking a job.

A young man named Doni has been very frustrated looking for a job. Since he got cut he hasn’t still got a job. Doni was B.sc engineering graduation; according to him he’s glad enough if he can get any job. After his unsuccessful looking a job in Jakarta, he’s back home because he’s running out of money. Young, unemployed and live with parents is something that a young Indonesian man would hardly to face with.

Doni then become so sensitive in some situations although his mother unintentionally hurt his feeling; however Doni perceive it that he’s useless.

Doni is a bright young man, but still doesn’t get the right job in accordance with his education background. He once works in administrative at a private school where give him small paid, but yet Doni still accept it.
Sadly, there still many young Doni in Indonesia who unemployed. Keep seeking a job and waiting is the only hope for them.

When I walk on a district area in Jakarta with building being built most of the builders are young and even some of those of are too young to do that job. If in Ireland many young people prefer to seek a job or travel than going to college, then the young unfortunate people in Indonesia have no choice to seek a job to survive from the hunger, or simply for the self-esteem.

It’s such as a sad phenomena to be seen in a country where can provide a lot of employment opportunities. But young people just make it through, for example the young entrepreneur, Sandiaga Uno, has proved himself that a success could begin from zero. Sandiaga Uno starts his business since his back from USA; being cut off and used to with bigger paid, particularly need use to with Indonesian wages, I don’t think it something that somebody would easy to d. Yet he breaks the crisis.

Sandiaga often comments to his successful that he is just being lucky to be one of the successful young and richest men in Indonesia. For me, successful isn’t just luck. It’s toil.

Last but not least is being unemployed is not something to be embarrassed with. If being unemployed is something that we can’t avoid then the good way is to accept it.  Don’t worry about what people think about your new status (it’s not your fault of being unemployed). Give yourself time to rest and be in your own world -- this maybe could give ideas.

You don’t have to be like Sandiaga Uno but see the message behind of his successful story. You might like this ads from Unicef, when I read this ads on a train station in Dublin, I stood front of the ads and thinking about it a lot: ‘Believe in ZERO’.

It’s uneasy to keep going on the unemployed situation, but as what Obama favourite quote says “We can do it!”
